SmarTrip Cards

Getting Around Washington DC

SmarTrip Cards are permanent, rechargeable plastic farecards that you use to pay for Metrorail trips, local Metrobus system fares and for parking at Metro Station lots.

The SmarTrip® card can hold up to $300 in Metrobus, Metrorail, and Metro parking value. A new card costs $2.

SmarTrip® cards are sold from dispensing machines at Metrorail stations. You can also buy a SmarTrip® card at over 200 retail locations or online at wmata.com.

Metrorail Passes

One Day Pass $14.50

One Day SmarTrip® Metrorail Pass is good for one full day of unlimited Metrorail travel. There are no time restrictions. Your One Day Pass will expire at the end of the operating day: 3 am on Friday and Saturday, midnight on Sunday through Thursday.

7-Day Fast Pass $59.25

The 7-Day Fast Pass allows unlimited Metrorail rides for 7 consecutive days. This pass becomes effective the first time it is used.

7-Day Short Trip Pass $36

The 7-Day Short Trip Pass is valid for seven consecutive days of unlimited Metrorail rides for trips that cost $3.60 or less when peak fares are in effect. During these times, if your trip costs more than $3.60, the additional charge will be deducted from the SmarTrip® card's Stored Value. Pass is good for any trip at all other times. The 7-Day Short Trip Pass becomes effective the first time it is used.

28-Day Fast Pass $237

The 28-Day Fast Pass allows for 28 consecutive days of unlimited Metrorail travel.

Metrobus Passes

7-Day Regional Bus Pass $17.50

The 7-Day Regional Bus Pass is valid for seven consecutive days of unlimited bus travel.

On express Metrobuses, the pass reduces the express bus fare by the price of a regular bus fare. (For example, if the express bus fare is $4, and a regular bus fare is $1.75 a the time of your trip, then your SmarTrip® card would be charged $2.25.)
